About Caladium Plant

Caladium Plant is a personal growing journal, not a care manual.
This site exists because I couldn’t find advice that actually matched how I grow tropical plants at home — especially caladiums. Most information I came across was either overly simplified, written for commercial nurseries, or clearly designed to rank well in search engines rather than reflect real growing conditions.

I live in the Pacific Northwest, where seasons matter. Winters are dark, summers are bright but short, and growing tropical plants almost always means containers, indoor light, and constant adjustment. Advice written for year-round outdoor climates rarely translates well here, and following it blindly often led to disappointment.

Instead of chasing “perfect care,” this site focuses on observation.

Most of what you’ll find on Caladium Plant comes from trial and error: what I tried, what worked, what didn’t, and how my conclusions changed over time. Many posts are shaped by mistakes — plants that stalled, leaves that failed to size up, tubers that behaved differently than expected. Those outcomes matter just as much as success.

I don’t aim to provide universal answers. Everything on this site is written with clear limits in mind: indoor and container growing, seasonal light shifts, and a real home environment rather than a greenhouse. When advice changes from one post to another, it’s usually because conditions changed — not because there’s a single “right” way to grow caladiums.

Caladium Plant also intentionally pushes back against three common patterns in plant content: simplified care charts, marketing-driven plant advice, and templated growing guides that ignore climate and context. Plants respond to environments, not checklists, and understanding that response takes time.

This site is for growers who enjoy tropical plants, especially caladiums, but don’t live in ideal climates. If you’ve followed the advice, done “everything right,” and still felt confused by the results, you’re exactly the kind of reader this site was made for.
